„Noile acumulări ale cercetării din ultimele decenii au contribuit într-o măsură importantă la creionarea unei imagini tot mai coerente a societății europene a epocii bronzului. Aparentul sistem egalitar al perioadei neo-eneolitice se restructurează treptat, iar consecința directă se va regăsi în ierarhizarea societății pe paliere, determinate în funcție de putere și avuția personală. Ideologia noii epoci este dominată de războinici și faptele lor de arme, de preocuparea pentru obținerea și consolidarea prestigiului, de imortalitatea eroului și a faptelor sale. Aceasta transpare nu doar din sursele scrise (chiar dacă ceva mai târzii), dar și din reprezentările iconografice ori din interpretarea unor contexte arheologice. Construcția identitară a elitelor se fundamentează nu doar pe obiectele de prestigiu personal, ci și pe deținerea unor poziții strategice, dominante în peisaj. Afișarea, adesea ostentativă a poziției înalte deținute în societate se manifestă pe multiple planuri. Unul dintre ele este cel al relației cu nivelul transcedental, cu divinitatea, domeniu unde se plasează, conform opiniei majorității specialiștilor, cea mai mare parte a depunerilor sau depozitelor de bronzuri. Depozitele de bronzuri reprezintă o sursă importantă pentru cunoașterea unor aspecte particulare ale civilizației europene a epocii bronzului. Multiplele niveluri ale abordării acestui fenomen au fost precizate într-o serie de studii, care au evidențiat însă și limitele cercetării. Una dintre cele mai serioase, cu care frecvent ne întâlnim, constă în caracterul fortuit al multora dintre depozitele descoperite. Într-o lucrare mai veche constatam, cel puțin pentru spațiul românesc, că depozitele de bronzuri care au fost descoperite / scoase la iveală de către specialiști reprezintă un procent periferic în ansamblul descoperirilor.” - fragment din Introducere

„Așezarea medievală timpurie analizată în volumul de față a fost cercetată în cursul anului 2012 prin săpături arheologice preventive (în vederea salvării vestigiilor arheologice şi eliberarea terenului de sarcină arheologică) determinate de „iminența” începerii lucrărilor de construcție la tronsonul respectiv al Autostrăzii A 3 (Autostrada Transilvania, Brașov‑Borș).

Deoarece în apropierea acestui sit a mai fost identificat și cercetat (tot în anul 2012) un sit preistoric (toponimul locului fiind tot Sfărăuaș), situl medieval timpuriu a fost denumit Marca Sfărăuaș I, iar cel preistoric Marca Sfărăuaș II.

Săpăturile arheologice preventive din sectorul Marca – Ip au fost finalizate în anul 2012, artefactele preistorice descoperite în zonă au fost analizate și publicate monografic în anul 2014, vestigiile medievale timpurii sunt publicate acum. În ceea ce privește Autostrada Transilvania…….încă nu străbate locurile respective…… ” (din „Câteva precizări”)

„The frontiers of the Roman Empire, over 5000 km long, stretch from the Atlantic coast of Scotland, along the Rhine and the Danube, also enclose the Banat region and Transylvania, then going down along the Oriental Carpathians to the Black Sea; from the southern coast of the Black Sea they continue towards the Near East until the Red Sea; then, in North Africa, they line the edge of the Sahara desert until the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Over this entire area, visible traces of fortifications, roads and settlements are still preserved, but numerous monuments still lay hidden underneath the earth. Despite the fact that the Roman frontiers crossed regions with different relief and climate, they constitute a whole in that they were designed to protect Roman territories. The research of these monuments and the preservation policy regarding them was and is unequal in the various presentday states on whose territory traces of the Roman frontier are to be found. Consequently, in the ‘80s of the 20th century, the idea of globally protecting the Roman frontiers, viewed as a unitary monument, was met. In 1987, Hadrian’s Wall in United Kingdom was declared a UNESCO monument. It was followed in 2005 by the German-Raetian sector, on which occasion the UNESCO committee decided to set up the ‘Frontiers of the Roman Empire’ site. (...)

This project through its complexity generated an interdisciplinary approach of the proposed subject stimulating such future attempts in the archaeological research field. By using the latest technical methods of non-destructive investigation the project did not damage the stratigraphy of the archaeological site obtaining instead a high amount of data otherwise time consuming judging from the archaeological excavations perspective contributing also to the preservation of the cultural heritage.” - Introduction
