“Our main goal was to provide new data regarding the nutrition and lifestyle of prehistoric communities from Transylvania. The information was obtained after performing analysis on plant species which were included in human diet.
In the first chapter we described the geography and geomorphology of Transylvania, as well as the area’s natural resources. According to specialized studies it appears that there were no radical changes in the region subjected to our attention.
In chapter two we aimed at reconstructing the climate and vegetation for the Holocene period, going on the assumption that there were no radical changes of these conditions since then.
Chapter three deals with the general emergence and evolution of plant processing during prehistory and the penetration pathways of this process to Transylvania. We also tried an overview of early plant cultivation in Transylvania.
In chapter four we present our contribution through original data provided within the content of this chapter. New archaeobothanical results from a series of prehistoric sites from Transylvania are presented as part of a review of the prehistoric plant economy. Available archaeobothanical data from intra Carpathian basin of Romania are evaluated and compared with our new results.
In conclusion, the book presents a review of Transylvanian archaeobothanical data, respectively the seed and fruit remains, and tries to draw assumptions regarding plant cultivation.” (from Introduction)
